The Hidden Risks

The Hidden Risks - a story of concealment and loss of family name

First published in 2006, this revised edition of this book would be of interest to all who are researching the Stagg family and descendants.

It has 100 extra pages packed with new information and interesting facts.

This history of the Stagg family of Meander in Tasmania, follows the lives of several transported convicts and their descendants and follows the story of Florence Stagg who died in 1917. After her death, her children are separated and all traces of her life buried with her in an unmarked grave under a misspelt name. One child, Kenneth, is raised by his maternal great-aunt, Elizabeth Anne Stagg. She gives him a new identity to shield him from the social stigma of being an illegitimate, mixed race child, effectively expunging his Middle Eastern ancestry. His two older brothers are placed in state care and denied return to their father's home. In this book, the layers of the past are uncovered to integrate past and present.
